The Avengers vs. Godzilla Pt.6

Outside the Solar System

The ship continued onward with all speed through the void of space towards Earth. After finally reaching the local solar system the crew of said ship flew towards Neptune, coming ever closer to their destination.

As the one piloting it continued they looked back to the others and said “We’re almost there. Estimated arrival is one hour and counting.”

While they continued to arm themselves one of the group said “Good. Let’s just hope we’re not too late.”

“And if we are?” one of the others asked.

For a moment they said nothing, finishing gearing up, before finally saying “Let’s just hope were not.”

Avengers Mansion, the Sub-Labs

While the others had returned to the surface with Baron Zemo and the other members of Hydra and the Serpent Society only Mr. Fantastic and Black Panther remained below in the labs along with the still possessed Jean Grey. During that time they continued to watch what went on above, seeing on the monitors as Captain Marvel, now powered with the same energy as Godzilla, battled with giant beast.

With a sigh of regret Panther stated “This is getting us nowhere. We can only halt Godzilla, but not stop him. The monster is too well powered.”

Mr. Fantastic was rubbing his chin and pondering as he suggested “It could be the years of radiation he might have been feeding on. Directly from the Earth’s core, if what Fury said was true. Perhaps if there was a way to drain it.”

Panther was quick to point out “No that would take too long. And the creature’s hide is too durable.”

Turning Mr. Fantastic suggested “Then perhaps instead of attacking from the outside, we should consider the inside.” Looking to Jean Grey now. After that both heroes walked up to her and asked “Can you help us? Is there any way you would be able to help us defeat that thing?” he now pointing at the screen where Godzilla was shown.

Jean, or at least the entity inside her, looked at the screen and observed the fight with Godzilla. After that she said “A creature like this is very powerful. Even in our present form, and with this female’s abilities, there is no guarantee. But perhaps there is an alternative.” When Panther questioned this they continued with “We are beings that require energy to fully sustain ourselves. With what energy we had we were able to traverse through the stars to this planet. But we are weak. We need more. Perhaps then we would be able to aid you against this creature.”

Hearing that Panther pointed out “That explains why our equipment always went dead around your…craft.” He said, indicating the meteor, which now seemed the more appropriate thing to call it now. “But you’re not the first alien life who’s come in the name of peace and then stabbed us in the back when our guard was down. How can we even trust you?”

“You cannot.” The entity answered. “And we do not blame you for doing so. We have seen such events as you described when looking through this girl’s mind. But you must decide. We promise to help you fight this monster, only if you help us.”

Both heroes looked to each other, obviously considering their options, until Mr. Fantastic was the one to say “What choice do we have? We need all the help we can get.”

After that he walked over to Jean, asking what was needed to help power the entity inside the meteor. Meanwhile Panther stood back, watching as they spoke, before turning and using his communicator out of hearing distance between them.

“Captain?” he began. “We have a situation.”

“Tell me about it.” Cap responded, standing outside the helicarrier after it was delivered down to the ground with everyone getting off. “We’ve managed to get Fury and everyone else off-board the Defender, and Carol’s still dealing with Godzilla.” He glanced back, seeing the two fire beams at each other, before adding “And right now it’s hard to tell which is winning.”

“This is something else.” Panther explained over the coms. “It has to do with the entity within the meteor.”

After Panther gave a quick explanation of what happened Cap looked worried before saying “Keep an eye on them for now. I’ll have someone come down in a minute. Just be careful.”
“Understood. What will you do in the meantime?”

Before he cut off from Panther Cap answered “Try Reed’s plan and hit Godzilla from the inside.”

He turned to everyone gathered nearby, including Fury, Maria Hill, Coulson, and the heroes minus Captain Marvel, Human Torch and Hulk. Iron Man was present but was now out of his Hulkbuster armor, and Thor was still wounded from his previous encounter with Godzilla.

“What’s the plan now, Cap?” Spider-Man asked. “Let Carol keep beating the lizard snot out of the big guy until he calls it quits?”

“Much as I’d like to hope for that, that won’t be how this ends.” Cap began before explaining to everyone “Carol’s not going to be able to hold onto that energy forever. And we can’t keep hitting that thing with just conventional weaponry. All it’s doing is making him mad.”

“So we try the other way.” Iron Man pointed out. “Try getting at his insides. Or, more likely, his mind.”

Cap agreed before asking “When was the last contact with Xavier?”

Storm was the one to answer with “We made sure he was back at the Mansion. Kurt was with him.”

“Let’s see if we can get him back.” Cap said. “Jean’s….too preoccupied right now. And we’ll need the best if we’re going to have any chance at making this work.” After a moment he stopped and realized “Wait. Where’s Hank and Janet?”

Everyone else looked around, realizing this, before Hercules answered “We’ve not heard from them since we tried to subdue Godzilla with the net.”

Cap and Iron Man looked at each other, the latter quick to say “Hank and Jan are tougher than they look. I’m sure they’re fine.”

Cap nodded before War Machine chimed in, saying “Whatever plan we’ve got now we’d better do it fast.” He pointed to the fighting and said “Carol’s starting loose her power-up glowing power thing.”

Falcon then added with “We need to buy more time.” He then gestured to everyone standing around and added “But I don’t think we’re in much shape to do anything right now.”

Cap rubbed his chin before turning and saying over the coms “Team X, are you still in position?”

“Been sitting here the whole time, Cap.” Colossus answered.

“Then no more standing around, Summers. Time bring you’re A-game.”

After firing another bolt of energy into Godzilla’s face Captain Marvel followed up with another strong punch to the jaw. Much like with the Hulk her power and strength was enough to stagger the giant beast for a moment before his recovery, only to swipe or snap at her again.

Firing another bolt at his chest now she said “Not’s so fun when it happens to you, is it?” She zipped out of his path when he tried to attack, only to follow up with another bolt, only this time something was wrong and prompt her to say “Wait! What?”

The last of the energy she fired finally started to weaken. When it hit Godzilla it did not have the same effect as it had before. She checked her hands and realized the blue glow she had was already fading away, meaning she didn’t have the edge she had and Godzilla was still no closer to being stopped.

As Godzilla looked to her Captain Marvel gave a quick “Uh-oh…” before hovering back and saying “Don’t think this means I’m done with you!”

She readied her hands to fire one of her regular blasts, Godzilla roaring as if ready for what she would try. However instead of one of her blasts hitting him a different one had hit the massive dinosaur right in the snout.

Captain Marvel looked down seeing who had done it, and said with surprise “Scott?”

Sure enough he stood there, along with the rest of the X-Men, or “Team X” as they were named during the fight, and said “Looks like you could use a hand. Mind if we step in?”

Standing with him were the mutants Wolverine, Colossus, Rouge, Iceman and Scarlet Witch; who had decided to join them instead of the Avenger’s members during the battle.

Seeing them, and feeling a bit relieved, Marvel finally said “If you’ve got nothing better to do.” With a smirk before turning back to Godzilla.

Wolverine looked up and said “Time to squish this lizard like roadkill!” before looking over to Colossus and saying “Hey, chrome-dome, you ready for a good old fashioned ‘fastball’?”

He nodded before picking Wolverine up, putting him in the famous position as he held his arm out. After Wolverine was ready Colossus hurled him up and forward with all his strength. Wolverine flew towards Godzilla’s head, giving a roar before his adimantium claws gave a loud “snikt” as he flew in the air.

Finally landing on Godzilla’s head, using his claws to secure himself, he called out “You trash New York so I’m trashing you, Bub!” before scratching at him.

Godzilla roared in pain, trying to shake Wolverine off of him, while the other X-Men joined in the fray. Rouge used her powers to lift Colossus, he temporarily turning to human form as she did, in order to lift him high enough to eventually drop on Godzilla’s head. As he did he turned back to his metal form, making the landing all the more heavier when he did before helping Wolverine beat on his head. Colossus fired more of his eye-beams at the beast, hitting him at the chest area. During this time Scarlet Witch had seen a nearby parked gasoline truck that she used her powers to manipulate, making it roll into Godzilla’s path before he wound up stepping on it. The explosion only seemed to bother him a little making him back up into another trap: the part of the street that Iceman had frozen over to force him to trip and fall over.

After seeing Godzilla fall on his back Captain Marvel, flying near Rouge, said “Much as the help is appreciated I don’t think it’s going to be enough!”

“Don’t worry, fly-girl.” Rouge said. “We’re just trying to keep him busy for the real show.” Before Marvel could question what she meant Rouge spoke over coms and asked “You ready, Kurt?”

Far enough to be safe but close enough to see what was going on Nightcrawler appeared on one of the roofs of a building, accompanied by Professor X, and responded “We are now, sis.” The two took a moment to see Godzilla in the distance with Nightcralwer saying to himself “My God…” and then quickly crossing himself. He then looked over and asked “Can you do it, Professor?”

Xavier, sitting in his chair, hummed to himself for a moment before saying “Animals minds are not as easy as humans. Less complex and yet all the more stubborn. But we have to try.”

With that Professor X closed his eyes and reached out, trying to look inside the mind of Godzilla. Despite all the fighting he tried to look deep into the creature’s thoughts, hopefully finding a way of controlling him. Whether from the fighting or the Professor’s mental attack Godzilla seemed to flay about more, scratching at his head and shaking it more violently. The professor favored no better, sweat starting to form on his brow while giving grunts of pain.

Finally he broke contact, taking a moment to breath, before saying “It’s…it’s too much. His mind’s too…thick!” When Nightcralwer asked if he saw anything Xavier said “Not much. Blurred images of the ocean and…other creatures… And one word. One word that kept repeating…. Destroy.”

From the Mansion everyone continued to watch the battle continue onward. Even down in the Sub-Labs where Mr. Fantastic worked with the entity in the meteor with Black Panther, Hawkeye, War Machine and Beast, the latter three arriving as per Cap’s orders, they could see from the monitors what was going on up-top. Meanwhile Fury, Hill and Coulson stood back from the group, the director of S.H.I.E.L.D. currently speaking over the coms with someone.

“No, sir.” He said. “I would not advise any sort of nuclear action….. With all due respect, sir, I don’t give a damn what the secretary of defense suggests. We have the situation well in hand…. Thank you, sir.” He finally broke off contact before walking towards Cap and saying “Please tell me you’ve got this. I’m not sure how much longer I can keep the trigger happy generals in the Whitehouse calm before it starts turning into WWIII.”

With that Cap was quick to ask over coms “Xavier?”

“It’s no good, Steve.” He responded. “Godzilla’s mind is too focused and angry. He’s so intent on destroying the meteor that he won’t stop until everything’s devastated.”

“Dammit!” Cap spurted out, startling a few people. His angered tone followed as he said “What the hell does it take to stop this thing?”

“Perhaps we should give the beast what he wants.” Hercules suggested. “Maybe that will satisfying him.”

Cap turned and said “There are things living in that meteor. Lives. That is a line we are not going to cross. End of discussion.”

“Then what else can we do, Cap?” Falcon asked. “We’ve throne everything we had. Our biggest guns, and it’s still not enough! What else can we do?”

Before anyone could think or say anything the feint voice of someone saying “Hello?” over the coms caught their attention. “Can-*zzzttt* -hear me? *zzsstt* -nyone out there?”

Hearing the voice Cap and others who heard perked up before he said “Hank?!?”

“Cap!” he responded. “Finally *zzssst* being trying to get a signal for over an hour. *zzsst* with Jan inside *zzssst* trying to help.”

“Slow down, Hank.” Cap began. “Your signal’s weak. Where did you say you were?”

“Well *zssst* hard to explain. But *zzsst* long and short we’re close to Godzilla. Very close…”

“Yeah.” Wasp’s voiced chimed in. “Enough to *zzsssst* this guy really needs a breath mint the size of a curies liner.”

“You’re in his mouth?!?” Cap exclaimed, getting everyone’s attention.

Over the odd sounds that could be heard in the background Cap listened as Yellowjacket explained “We were at first. *zzzssst* almost got swallowed alive. We tried *zzssstt* our way back towards the cranium to *zzssst* hit him from the inside.”

Hearing that Iron Man, also listening, said “Hank, you brilliant bastard! That’s what we’ve been trying to do. How’d you know?”

“Actually it was Jan’s idea.” He explained. “Had to *zzzsst* a little jealous I didn’t think of it myself.”

“We get out of this in one piece I’ll consider us even.” Wasp quipped back.

After that Yellowjacket continued with “We’re going to try and *zzssst* for the creature’s brain. A good shot to *zzsst* temporal and parietal lobes with enough *zzssst* should knock him out.”

Iron Man quickly said “Hang on. That sort of move could be dangerous. We need to wait for the right place for him to fall.”

Spider-Man then perked up and said “How about the park? He’s close enough. And if we draw him in the worst that’ll break is just some trees. Maybe an old bench or two.”

Cap, Iron Man and Fury all looked to each other before the latter said “Either that or we find the biggest bunker nearby. Might as well try.”

Cap nodded before saying “Hank, you and Jan reach his head as fast as possible. Wait for my signal and then let him have it.” After they confirmed this he changed coms and said “Carol. You and Team X pull back. We’re about to give this guy one hell of a headache.”

“Copy that.” She said from her positon. After that she called to the mutant members “You heard the man! Let’s pull back.”

With that everyone stopped and turned to retreat, before Rouge stopped and called “Logan!”
Despite what Captain Marvel had said Wolverine was still stabbing at Godzilla’s skull, angering the beast. He continued to trash about or scratch to try and get him off to no avail as Wolverine practically gloated with laughter.

“Just go!” he called. “I’ve got this!”

“Are you out of your mind, you knucklehead?” she called back before finally flying out of the way.

As he struggled Wolverine eventually found his way to Godzilla’s eye, saying “Hey, you Jurassic jerk, here’s something to remember me by!”

Before he could sink his claws into the giant reptilian eye Godzilla finally managed to swat Wolverine off of him. He fell all the way down to the ground, hundreds of feet all the way down to the waiting concreate street below. With a hard crack he made contact with the ground, Godzilla roaring as if in relief to be rid of him.

After a moment Wolverine began to stir, his mutant healing factor kicking in and helping to mend his broken bones and other wounds. He groaned as he started to stand, giving a few painful grunts as he helped to snap certain joints back into place.

Once he was fully healed he stood and chuckled “Had softer landings. But at least-”

Before he could finish Godzilla had stepped right on top of him, squashing Wolverine in the process. Despite this Godzilla continued to walk onward, leaving the yet again broken Wolverine in the streets while he made his way towards the Avengers Mansion through Central Park.

As he started to heal again Wolverine mumbled to himself “Guess Hulk’s not the only giant, green bastard around anymore.”

After seeing everyone else pull back Nightcralwer looked to Professor X and said “Come on, Professor. We need to get clear.”

“Wait.” He said, holding his hand up. He was looking as Godzilla continued to stomp through the city he said “There’s something about what I read from his mind. Something I’m not sure makes a lot of sense. I need to see again. I need to look on more time.” When Nightcralwer asked what he meant he further explained “There’s more to this, Kurt. That monster is here for more than the meteor. And we need to know what exactly it is.” He sighed before commenting “I only wish I had Cerebro on stand-by.” After that he put on a more confident face and said “Just let me try one more time.”

Once again Xavier closed his eyes before reaching out with his mind, trying to see into Godzilla’s. The giant monster continued to walk towards Central Park, finally stepping foot into the green expanse of a park. As he did Cap and the others waited until the right moment to strike. As Xavier began to chip into Godzilla’s mind again he tried to force his way deeper, through whatever thick and stubborn block the beast might have had to see what his true intentions were. Just at that moment Godzilla was finally where Cap had wanted him.

Xavier, finally seeing something, began to say “No. This is….wrong.” He gasped, opening his eyes before saying “It’s-”

“NOW!” Cap shouted over the coms, signaling for Yellowjacket and Wasp to finally attack the creature’s mind.

Both of the tiny heroes fired their laser blasts at the designated spots at Godzilla’s brain. With a loud and painful screech Godzilla threw his head back. At the same time Xavier screamed as well, practically mirroring the monster as his mind was unfortunately still linked with him.

The professor fell from his chair, Nightcrawler hurrying to try and help, while Godzilla still roared in pain. Unlike before his cries were of true pain, not anger as before. Some of the heroes looked a little upset by this, even to where some turned away to not see. Xavier still riled in pain, holding his head to try and relax.

“Stop!” Nightcrawler called over the coms. “The professor was still linked with his mind! You’re killing him!”

Hearing that Cap quickly told the Pyms to stop. Once they did Xavier calmed, but was now passed out from the trauma. Meanwhile Godzilla stopped, his head slumping forward as he seemed unable to move. Everyone held their breath to see if the plan had worked. Eventually Godzilla collapsed, falling forward on his stomach with a sudden crash that was followed by a small but violent shudder that made everyone brace themselves in the moment.

Everyone mobilized and hurried over to see for themselves. All heroes and military made their way to where Godzilla had fallen, surrounding him even as he apparently laid unconscious. Everyone remained on guard, however, as Captain America approached first and checked to see not only if he was still breathing but if Yellowjacket and Wasp were alright.

“Jan? Hank?” Cap called over coms. “Can you hear me?”

For a moment nothing came through and everyone was worried. It wasn’t until Spider-Man had called out that everyone looked to where he was pointing, seeing two small figures crawl out from Godzilla’s ear, or at least the ear-like holes on his head.

Yellowjacket appeared first, helping Wasp out last by pulling her by the hand. Both, after escaping the ear, grew to normal size as they fell to the ground. Both of them breathed heavily as they looked shaken up from the fall inside Godzilla’s head. They looked up as everyone surrounded them, seeing if they were alright.

Wasp finally laughed a little and said “Now I know why they pay ear doctors so much.”

Yellowjacket and a few others laughed at this before Cap and Vision helped both of them up. The two confirmed to everyone who asked that they were fine before looking back to the still unconscious Godzilla.

Cap nodded before confirming to everyone else “We did it.” Everyone took a moment to revel in their victory before he realized “Xavier!”

Within a moment Iron Man, Storm, Rouge and Falcon had all flown up to where Xavier had passed out. Nightcrawler explained what had happened before being told to get him somewhere he would receive medical attention.

As the two disappeared Storm had to ask “What do you think the professor meant by something being wrong?”

Iron Man questioned this himself, looking back towards where Godzilla had fallen. After that he looked back towards the Mansion, more questions firing through his head.

After taking a moment to relax a perimeter was set up around Godzilla. Military forces kept their remaining tanks and weapons trained on Godzilla while the heroes all took what time they needed to recover; some even needing minor medical attention themselves. Hulk and the Human Torch, as well as anyone else who was in another part of the city, had finally returned to the main bulk of the group before everyone swapped stories about what had happened while they faced Godzilla in their own way.

Meanwhile Cap seemed bothered by something as he looked at Godzilla. He just stared at the defeated creature, only unlike everyone who was happy to have seen him down Cap was the only one who seemed more distressed.

Noticing this Falcon had walked up and asked “You starting to feel sorry, Steve?”

“It’s just…” he began. “I can’t help but feel something’s off about all this. Just a gut feeling is all.” After that he turned back, using his coms, and asked “T’Challa? What’s the situation down there?”

“They’re almost ready to funnel what power is needed for the meteor.” He answered.

“Don’t let them do anything until I get down there.” He said before breaking coms, walking off and saying “Time we had some answers.”

Before he could he passed Maria Hill who, speaking to Fury, said “Sir? We’ve just gotten word from our monitoring team back at home base. There’s another signal coming from something head towards our atmosphere.”

Cap stopped as Fury heard this, looking back to the red white and blue hero, before turning back to Hill and asking “Please tell me it’s not another damn meteor.”

“Not unless it’s coming from the planet of Hamilton, Joe Frank and Reynolds.” She retorted before letting him hear the transmission.

Even Cap had to lean over and hear this as the lyrics of “~Don’t pull your love on me, baby! If you do then I think then maybe, I’ll just lay me down, cry for hundred years~” could be heard.

Both looked oddly at each other before something else soon caught their attention. Everyone could hear as something flew out from the clouds and over the city. It took a moment for anyone to realize it was a ship, but a rather small one at that. It was in the distance, making it hard to tell what origin the ship had, but once it was close enough some began to realize what and who it was.

There was even a moment where Captain Marvel had said “Oh, you’ve got to be kidding.”

The small craft, the Milano, flew overhead before finally finding a place to touch down and land; close to where the heroes, military and Godzilla were in Central Park. Everyone watched as it opened before five figures stepped out. Some had known who they were, others had to be informed later that the group composed of Peter Quill, a.k.a. Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax the Destroyer, Rocket Raccoon and the living tree known as Groot.

“The Guardians of the Galaxy?!?” Spider-Man voiced his surprise, as were some of the others.

Drax, looking over at Godzilla, was quick to say “You have creatures like this on your planet, Quill? No wonder you’re not so keen to return all the time.”

Despite this Star-Lord walked up towards the heroes, his group following as Cap walked up to meet him with some of the Avengers following him as well. Once they met in the middle the two quickly shook hands, indicating that everything was fine for those who were unaware of the Guardians or where they stood.

“Cap.” Star-Lord nodded.

“Star-Lord.” Cap retorted. “Interesting to see you here. And you sort of caught us at an odd time.” He indicated Godzilla to further explain this.

Star-Lord responded “Yeah, we’ve noticed. But I’ll ask later. Right now we’re hear about something important.”

“I am Groot.” Said the living tree lifeform, as was expected of him.

“Exactly.” Rocket said before asking “So where’d you put it?”

“Put what?” Ant-Man asked.

“The meteor.” Gamora answered. “The one that had to have fallen to this planet within the last few days.”

Cap, Iron Man, Fury, and a few others all exchanged glanced before the former asked “And why exactly are you looking for it?”

Star-Lord answered “Because it’s not a meteor. It’s something a whole lot worse.”
