The Rider

In the wide open lands of DunBroch Princess Merida, the girl who changed her destiny after accidentally turning her mother into a bear thanks to the dealings with a witch, was out riding in the early morning with her horse Angus.

Even before the curse over her mother was lifted and both had found a deeper love for each other, Merida always enjoyed riding out in the early morning air to feel the breeze of a new day and watch the sun rise on the horizon. Her family and the servants of the castle she lived in were aware of this, so Merida knew not to worry of them worrying about her whereabouts. That made it all the more easy to ride out as far as she wanted, eve to the cliffs overlooking the open sea near her lands.

Once at her favorite spot, Merida stopped Angus and both looked out as the sun was starting to rise higher and higher. The scene was such a majestic picture that the princess took a few moments to let it sink in.

She gave a relaxing sigh before saying “Today’s going to be another good day. Right, Angus?” she asked, petting the horses’ main before it gave a small whiny in reply. “I thought so.” After taking one more look to the sea she began to turn him and said “C’mon. Let’s get back in time for breakfast. Hopefully the boys haven’t snuck off with any of Maudie’s famous sausages.”

The horse gave a little huff from his nose as they began to trot back towards castle DunBroch, coming close to the woods where Merida had traveled before.

They did not get far however when Merida thought she spotted a shadow moving fast through the woods. Slowing Angus she tried to look closer, narrowing her eyes and shading them to make sure it was no trick of the light. Even Angus looked curiously before giving a huff to Merida.

She stopped looking and shrugged “Probably just a mangy old wolf or something.”

Just as she motioned for Angus to continue they were both stopped but what was in front of them: a wisp; one of the small blue flame-like spirits that haunted the woods and had helped Merida on her quest before. Seeing it, Merida knew that whatever it wanted was important.

The wisp beckoned her, as they’d done before, only this time it seemed more desperate. It acted in distress, like a person trying to warn of something. As Merida looked confused at this the wisp disappeared before reappearing to her right, closer to the forest.

As Angus gave a distressing whiney, Merida patted his side and said “Easy, boy. Maybe it’s just the witch wanting to talk with me again.”

With a little clock she motioned for Angus to proceed into the forest, following the wisp as it lead them. For a few moments they went further and further in, the density of the trees making it a bit darker and harder to see certain areas in the distance. All the while the wisp still gave a pleading beckoning for the princess to follow.

Eventually they came to the circle of old standing stones Merida had come to before, managing to bring Angus into the center. The wisp had stopped beckoning her and merely floated in front, still looking scared over something.

Merida took a moment to look around, not seeing anything, before looking back to it and asking “Well? What is it?”

Suddenly the sound of something snapping a twig nearby caught hers, Angus’s and the wisp’s attention, the latter disappearing right after. Seeing this Merida looked nervously towards where the sound came from, even reaching back and taking out her bow and quiver of arrows she’d brought with her.

The sounds of something approaching became clearer, making the princess arm the bow before calling “Hello? Anyone there?”

There was no answer but Merida could tell whoever or whatever was approaching was on horseback, by the sound of the clopping of hooves. As she looked closer Merida could see it was indeed someone riding a horse, their figure silhouetted in the darkness.

She still kept her bow at the ready and said “Who are you?” When they did not answer she drew her bow and aimed before warning “I am princess Merida of DunBroch. This is the land of my father, King Fergus. Whoever you are, if you’re intended to put up some sort of fight, I’ll….”

The whole time she talked the rider came closer and closer to her, eventually being revealed in the sunlight as he exited the forest. When she could finally see who it was, Merida was shocked beyond belief.

The man rode a large black horse with burning red eyes, like ambers. The rider was all in black as well, the only color being a crimson cape he wore. He had a sword that was currently sheathed on his belt. On the saddle of his horse was a bag which glowed an unearthly blue, the same color as the wisps. But what stood out the most about this rider, the thing that scared Merida the moment she saw him clearly, was that he had no head.

For a moment Merida lowered her bow in disbelief at the sight, but soon aimed it again and fired once the Horseman drew his weapon at her. The arrow his right in the chest as she’d hoped but to Merida’s dismay he merely pulled it out and tossed it aside, like it was nothing but a splinter.

Seeing that her weapons couldn’t harm him, Merida turned Angus around and called for him to run. The Horseman began to cackle, Merida thinking it odd since he had no head, before charging his horse after her. Looking back the princess could see he was gaining and fast, his blade swinging in the air as he followed and cackled the entire time.

As Merida tried to make back for her castle, hoping to outrun this Headless Horseman, all she could think to herself as how wrong she was in thinking today would be another good day.

**********************

In the Disney Castle King Mickey was walking through the halls, enjoying the day so far.

Over a year had passed, at least in the time of this world, since King Mickey and his friends had banded together with the heroes of many of the other worlds, or “Outer Worlds” as they were also called, to defeat a great evil called the Horned King from conquering all of them.

In that time came the discovery of discovery of certain individuals called “Alpha Beings”, those who had some power above others in their own worlds. One of these was Mickey’s friend and mentor, the sage Master Yen Sid, who attained his true power after sacrificing his life to save another and joining others like himself among the stars. While it had pained Mickey for the loss of his friend, he knew that it was for a greater good and that he had accomplished his own mission in the end.

Ever since then things had been quite for both this world, the Outer Worlds which were affected by the event itself, and even the newer worlds that were discovered soon after. Many new tales had been written down and many new heroes were discovered, all however unaware of the other worlds around them.

As Mickey continued on his little walk through the castle he eventually came to the courtyard, now acting as a training area for some of the newer knights of the castle guard. Mickey, looking down from a balcony, watched as the knights trained. Among them, he could see, was his dear friend and Captain of the Guard, Goofy. With him was someone Mickey was both surprised and yet glad to see.

“Alright now, son.” Goofy said to the young knight in-training. “What you want to do is make sure you don’t end up poking yourself with your own sword when fighting another guy. Otherwise you’ll end up taking an eye out.”

Max, Goofy’s son and the knight in question, rolled his eyes and said “Dad, I think I know how to handle a sword.”

Both Max and Goofy were standing near a training dummy, one that was similar to the others being used by the other knights in the courtyard. While Goofy was wearing his usual knight’s armor, a shield on his back and a sword he was “demonstrating” how to use in his hand, Max was dressed in lighter armor that only covered so much. He had a sword himself while holding the helmet of the suit under his arms.

“Now, now, Maxie.” Goofy began. “Don’t think just because you’re the Captain’s son that you already have a head start over the others. You got to start from square one like everyone else.” Max merely rolled his eyes again before Goofy readied himself against the dummy and said “Now, first thing’s first. You got to get your hand firmly gripped on the sword. Then you plant your feet in the right position. You keep yourself ready to block at any moment. Look the bad guy right in the eye. And…”

With that Goofy trusteed his sword forward at the dummy, missing under the arm. Giving how much he put into it, the captain went forward and knocked the arm of the dummy, making it spin. Goofy fell to the ground for a moment before lifting his head, only to have it knocked from behind by the dummy’s spinning.

After Goofy recovered, Max giving a little groan of embarrassment while Mickey chuckled from above, he said “Alright, son. You try. And remember what I said.”

Max sighed, thinking he’d want to try something other than what his dad had just done, before drawing his sword and placing his helmet aside. He stood in front of the dummy and took a stance. A moment later he demonstrated how handy he was with a sword, managing to keep his footing while circling the dummy and hitting it in vital spots.

As both watched Mickey and Goofy had to give silent remarks of appreciation at how Max was handling his combat skills. Even when he was done he managed to swing his sword around before putting it back in its sheath flawlessly.

Max, looking back to his father now, asked “How was that?” with a little hint of coyness in his face.

Goofy chuckled and said “Not bad, Maxie. Now let’s get into shooting a crossbow.”

Max had a concerned and yet another embarrassed look at the idea of his father trying to use a crossbow before walking off with him to the firing range. Mickey only chuckled, understanding what Max was feeling with his father, before walking onward through the castle.

As he progressed further on, now inside, he passed through the doorways leading into the royal library. The guards stationed there saluted to Mickey, he giving a salute back, before noticing the door was cracked and it looked as if there was a large gathering inside.

Upon further inspection he could see a group of adults, parents he realized, standing or sitting towards the very end of the library around the large group of children who were all sitting down and looking towards Queen Minnie. She was sitting at a small area in a chair where, hanging above her on the wall, was the picture of all of the heroes from all the worlds brought together for the one grand event of the Feast of the Stars; a celebration they’d all held after their victory over the Horned King. In her lap was the Book of Legends, the text containing all the stories from each of the worlds of good against evil, which she was reading a certain story to the children.

“And so,” she began to finish from what Mickey could hear. “the young boy, Taran, took the mighty sword and plunged it into the chest of the Horned God of Darkness. Thus freeing the dreaded Chernabog and destroying the Horned King. Everything was set right again in all the worlds.”

All the children gave little “wows” or were leaning in close to hear the end of the story. Sitting among them was Minnie’s best friend and attendant Daisy Duck, who seemed just as invested as they were.

“With the threat to all worlds gone, the heroes celebrated with one another at the Feast of the Stars. It was a celebration of victory and friendship, and one that felt all too short for everyone. The next day all the heroes returned to their worlds.”

Daisy leaned over to the nearby kids and commented “This is my favorite part.”

“And they all lived happily ever after.” Minnie finally finished, closing the book. “And that, children, ends the Tale of Heroes.”

All the kids clapped, Daisy and even some of the parents included, which made Minnie smile and blush a little. Even Mickey smiled as he continued to watch from the doorway.

As Minnie thanked everyone, one little girl asked “Excuse me, your highness. Whatever happened to Master Yen Sid when he became the Alpha Being?”

Minnie gave a little look, knowing it was a rough subject to talk about, but answered “Well, to tell the truth, when he finally passed on he never really left. He still watches over us even to this day. Along with the Blue Fairy and even Ray the firefly.” She leaned in closer, the children doing so as well, and whispered “In fact, sometimes you can almost tell he’s standing right beside you. Keeping an eye out for any misbehaving people or future heroes of the world.”

Some of the kids looked around or over their shoulders while some of the parents either chuckled or smiled while shaking their heads. Daisy and Minnie exchanged playful glances while Mickey smiled a little before contemplating how somewhat true it all was.

When the war against the Horned King was finished, Yen Sid had given much of his own life force to use a teleportation spell to help the heroes travel to worlds; a spell that was never used again after the creation of the Doorway which does so on its own. During the battle however the pixie Tinkerbell was slain. When the heroes returned Yen Sid had given his last bit of life to revive her, this summoning the Blue Fairy, who was in fact an Alpha Being herself, to revive him to new life; the firefly Ray being with her as a spirit. After that he and the other returned to the sky, all becoming stars and watchful guardians over all the worlds now.

Mickey, thinking on his friends sacrifice, walked towards a nearby window in the hallway and looked up to the sky. Given that it was day time he could not see any stars, especially not the specific three he was hoping to see, but in his heart he knew they were out there. Keeping the watchful eyes they were.

Just as Mickey turned he found a guard standing there before saluting and saying “Sorry to interrupt you, sire. But the….prisoner wished to speak with you.”

Knowing what he meant, Mickey sighed and asked “Again?”

“I could tell him you’re not available, sir.” The guard suggested.

Mickey waved it off and said “No, no. If he wants to speak I’ll hear him out. Hopefully it won’t be the same as every other time.”

The guard nodded before escorting Mickey towards the dungeons of the castle. Within a few minutes they descended stairs into a darker underground cell area of the castle. Aside from the few windows that allowed daylight, the only sources of light were the torches on the walls or in the occupied cells. That being said there was only one actual occupied cell, one that Mickey knew to go to once he arrived.

He indicated for the guard to follow with the torch as he walked towards the cell, eventually reaching it and looking in. All there was, aside from the occupant, was a tattered bed with straw sticking out. One the wall was a sloppily drawn picture of Mickey with parts on it. And in the corner was a bucket.

Mickey, seeing the prisoner sitting at the wall and looking at him, asked “What is it this time, Pete?”

Pete, the king’s longtime enemy, got up and walked towards the bars of the cell so Mickey could have a better look at him. His clothes, the one’s he usually worn, were tattered and gross looking; obviously since he hadn’t bathed. Even his fur looked messy as well.

“I’m getting sick and tire of sitting in this stink hole of a cell, runt.” Pete said, holding the bars and looking angrily at Mickey. “How long before you let me outta here?”

Because of Pete’s meddling in the past, he was the one responsible for not only resurrecting the Horned King but also giving him knowledge of the other worlds and how to travel to them. While Pete was defeated and captured, the other villains involved in the war either dead or returned to their own worlds, many considered him to be the one truly responsible for everything going wrong in the first place. Since then he’s been imprisoned to serve out his sentence.

Mickey sighed and said “For the last time, Pete, you’ll be out of here once we think you’ve actually learned a lesson.”

“Oh but I have.” He said in a less convincing tone. “The lesson I learned is if you’re going to join up with an all-powerful scary king to take over the world, make sure you get the bigger cut!”

Peter bellowed a laugh while Mickey shook his head and retorted with “You’ll never learn, will you? That’s how you wound up in here in the first place.”

“I’m in here ‘cause of you and the rest of those chump heroes getting involved in me and the Horned King’s business. None of this would’ve happen if you’d all just laid down and stayed out of our way.”

“And let you just take over?” Mickey asked. “Face it, Pete. It’s never going to happen. And you’ll keep making the same mistakes as long as we’re here to stop you.”

Mickey began to walk away, Pete saying “You can’t keep me in here forever, runt! What about my family? I’ll bet they’re wondering where I am by now. Probably worried sick.”

Mickey stopped and walked back before saying “We tried letting them know, Pete. To be honest, we haven’t seen or heard from them since.” Seeing Pete’s dishearten reaction, Mickey gave a solemn “I’m sorry, Pete. If I knew I’d…”

Pete, going back to his more negative personality, said “Ah! I don’t need your sympathy, runt. ‘Cause as soon as I’m outta here, I’m going to smack you silly until you think upside down is right-side upwards.” Mickey shook his head before walking off again, Pete still calling “This ain’t over! You hear me, runt! I’ll get out of here, I will! And after that, it’ll all be over for you and the rest of your chump buddies!”

Mickey walked on, not looking back. Meanwhile Pete, having aired out enough of his anger towards the king, eventually settled and went back to the bed. He sat on it, looking a bit upset after hearing the news about his family; something he knew he couldn’t let anyone see given his history and personality towards others. He was after all, a famous pirate and criminal in his world.

By the time Mickey returned to the halls of the castle, he sighed and decided just to continue on his little walk. However not a moment later there was a loud banging sound. Mickey looked around, trying to find the source of the sound, before looking outside and up towards the highest tower of the castle; the former study of Master Yen Sid. There was smoke coming from the window of it, making Mickey instantly run off to check and see for himself.
Running all the way up the stairs to the very top Mickey opened the door to the study, only to be met by a sudden gust of smoke. He coughed and covered his mouth as he tried to clear it while entering the room and looking around.

“Everyone alright in here?” he called, trying to see who was inside.

Eventually he found Donald Duck, the head sorcerer of the castle, lying flat against the wall and covered in soot from the explosion. Mickey helped him off, practically peeling him off the wall, before the duck wizard fell flat on his back.

“Donald!” Mickey said, leaning down and helping him up. “Are you alright?”

With a dizzied tone, Donald said “I’m alright, your majesty. Oh, look at all the pretty stars.”

He fell back to the ground before Mickey helped him up again, saying “What were you doing up here?”

Before Donald could answer, from behind the desk in the room came someone saying “Sorry, your majesty. We were trying to perfect our new teleportation spell and things went out of whack.”

Mickey looked to see Scrooge McDuck, Donald’s uncle and fellow wizard, picking himself up from behind the desk and walking over to them. After sweeping the dust and soot off himself it was revealed he was wearing clothing somewhat similar to Donald, at least displaying he was a wizard. In one hand he had a cane while in the other he was cleaning his top hat that he eventually put back on his head.

After Master Yen Sid’s passing, Donald was officially made the high sorcerer of the kingdom. With that he was given all of Yen Sid’s things, including the study and everything inside of it. This included the Viewing Basin, a tool used to see into the Outer Worlds, and the Magic Mirror, once owned by the evil queen Grimhilde that she used against Snow White. After his appointment Donald had called on Scrooge McDuck to be an adviser wizard on certain matters, including trying to form new spells like they were attempting today.

As they cleaned everything up Mickey asked “How far did you get this time?”

Scrooge gave a little “Ack!” before saying “Same as always, your majesty. Nowhere. But we’re close. I can feel it.”

Donald, cleaning off the hat that once belonged to Yen Sid before putting it on his head, added “There’s still something missing from the spell. Some sort of piece we need to make it work.”

“Well any ideas?” Mickey asked. “Hopefully something that’ll keep you both from nearly blowing the entire castle up.”

Both of them began thinking, even to the point of posing the same way with their heads resting on their fists, before Donald said “Maybe if we just some magic gold dust.”

“Gold dust?” Scrooge said with disbelief. “Are you thick in the head, boy? That’ll do no good. What we need is some essence of nightshade and a mix of phosphor fluid to-”

“That’s a terrible idea, Uncle Scrooge!” Donald cut him off. “It’ll just backfire like this time.”

“Well you’re the one who wanted to use eye of gorgon, boy!” Scrooge retorted.

As both of them argued over this, Mickey rolled his eyes and looked away. He looked towards the Viewing Basin when something caught his eye. As he took a closer look he was shocked by what he was seeing.

“Uh….fellas?” he tried to say to the two duck wizards. As both of them still argued he looked back and said “Hey! Come see, quick!”

Both of them stopped and looked to see what Mickey was seeing. In the Basin they could now all see the scene before them, Merida still running through the forest while the Headless Horseman followed. There came a point where she’d thought she’d lost him, only for the Horseman to appear in front of her and swing his sword. He missed and Merida rode off in the opposite direction, still showing she was in distress despite firing arrows at him.

Mickey and the others looked at one another before the king, looking to Donald, gave a serious look and said “Get Goofy. I’ll meet both of you down in the Doorway Chamber.”

**********************

Merida had been running for a long time, it seeming as if the Horseman was everywhere around her.

He was faster, or at least his horse was, and no matter how many arrows she’s hit him with he only shrugged them off. And Merida had found he was clever enough to keep her from exiting the forest to warn anyone, meaning she was basically trapped.

Looking back at this point there was no sign of him. But just as she turned to face forward, she was too late to duck from a branch that smacked her right in the face.

Merida fell off, her bow and arrows following, while Angus kept running. It took her a moment to wake, still feeling the blunt from the hit echoing through her head, only to see the large shadow of the Horseman looming over her.

Merida tried to reach form her weapon but the large black horse gave a loud whiny, almost like a roar, towards her and cut her off. The Horseman, with his blade now pointed at her, finally lifted it to bring it down on the young princess’ head. Merida closed her eyes and waited for that final moment of her life.

Before the Horseman could bring it down, his blade was blocked by a shield that was swung into the way at the last minute. Merida opened her eyes and saw the shield hit the ground before both she and the Horsemen looked to see who’d thrown it.

Mickey, Donald and Goofy all stood ready to fight, the former saying “Get away from the princess, now!”

The Horseman turned and, after giving a loud cackle, charged towards the trio. All of them jumped out of the way before, after the Horseman passed, Donald shot a fireball from his wand. The Horseman turned and sliced it out of the air in time, only for Mickey to tackle him off his horse.

Goofy ran over and picked up his shield, standing in front of Merida to protect her, while Mickey and Donald still fought. The Horseman got to his feet and drew his sword before engaging King Mickey. Donald tried to run up from behind but the phantom horse cut him off, scaring him in the process. It reared up and readied to stomp on him but Goofy managed to get in front and use his shield to block it.

Both parties fought for a moment before, thanks to Donald using a wind spell at the right moment, the phantom horse was knocked back and eventually landed on his headless master. In the process the bag that glowed blue fell off the saddle.

While the heroes re-grouped the Horseman, realizing where the bag was, hurried over to try and retrieve it. Donald, seeing it, managed to run over and grab it before the Horseman could. He peeked inside to see, to his surprise, it was full of wisps.

“What the…?” he said before the Horseman came from behind and swung his sword.

Donald ducked in time but the Horseman soon took the bag from him and swung again, only for the little wizard to scurry off and regroup with his friends. The Horseman, and his horse returning to him, realized he was surrounded.

“Give up?” Mickey asked, still keeping his weapon aimed at him.

Just as it seemed over for the Horseman, the sudden sound of something familiar caught the trio’s attention. They looked to the left and could see, of all things, a Portal; the same kind used by both Yen Sid and the Horned King during the war.

“How did that…?” Donald said before they looked back to the Horseman.

He’d taken the opportunity to get back on his horse before running past them and towards the portal. Mickey called for someone to stop him, Donald hurrying fast after him. However by the time the Horseman passed through the portal it disappeared, Donald running right into a tree that was behind it.

He groaned “Not again…” before falling back.

Mickey and Goofy ran to him, helping back to his feet and even fixing his bill when it was bent out of shape, before Goofy said “Did you guys see that too?”

“Yeah.” Donald said “It was a portal spell.”

“But how did he do it?” Mickey asked. “The Headless Horseman isn’t magical, right?”

“I think so.” Goofy said before adding “But he wasn’t in the war, so how could he know about other worlds anyways?”

“Ahem.” Someone said without them noticing.

“Maybe it has to do with the wisps.” Donald guessed.

“The wisps?” Mickey asked.

“Yeah. They were in the bag. And I checked. It had sealing spells drawn on it. That’s how they were stuck in there.”

“Ahem!”

“They couldn’t have made that spell, could they?” Goofy asked.

Donald shook his head and said “Not unless he made them say it. Remember, you need to say the spell to make it work.

“Then how did he say it?” Mickey asked. “He doesn’t even have a mouth.”

“Maybe he mimed it.” Goofy guessed.

“OYE!” the person said, finally getting their attention.

The three looked and saw Merida, with an arrow pointed at them, who then asked “I don’t know who or what you are, but do you have something to do with that….that headless monster or what?”

Seeing that she was still scared, Mickey lowered his weapon and said “Easy, Princess Merida. We’re not with the Horseman.”

“How do you know me?” she asked, still keeping her weapon trained.

“Well…..it’s hard to explain.” Donald said awkwardly.

“Try!” she demanded.

Goofy was the one to say “Well you see, princess, we come from a whole other world from yours. We knew about you ‘cause of this magic Viewing Basin in our castle. And when we saw you were in danger we used the magic Doorway to come here and help you.” There was a moment of silence from everyone before Goofy finished with “There. That helps, right?”

While Mickey and Donald groaned over the fact Goofy had given basically everything away, Merida gave a confused look and asked “Right. Now tell me the one about the giant birdy that came out of a dragon’s rear end while you’re at it.”

“I know it sounds crazy.” Mickey began. “But I promise you, it’s the truth. We know about you and what you went through when your mother was a bear, Merida.” This made the princess look a little more convinced. “How angry you were at her before. How you made the deal with the witch and eventually cured her.”

“And how you beat that bear, Mor’du, too!” Donald added.

“And when you convinced the kingdoms to unite without needed to get married.” Goofy added.
Merida looked between the three of them seeing they were trying to be honest with her, eventually making her drop her bow and say “Alright. You’ve convinced me.”

As they all relaxed, Angus whined before running back to Merida, she thanking goodness that he was alright. While this happened the trio of heroes recovered their things and walked over to her as well.

“So, who are all of you?” she asked, looking at them. She pointed at Donald and asked “Are you a witch that got turned into a duck or something?”

“No, no, no.” Donald waved her off. “I was always a duck. My name’s Donald Duck.”

“Name’s Goofy.” He introduced with a hyuck.

“And I’m Mickey Mouse.” He said. “King Mickey to most in our world. But you can just call me Mickey if you want.”

Merida looked at him oddly and asked “You’re a king?” When Mickey confirmed it she still looked oddly at him and said “Right. And what about that Headless Horseman or whatever he was? He from your world, too?”

Goofy answered with “Hu-uh. He’s not from ours. And that’s the weird part.”

Mickey interjected with “Look, it’s a lot to explain. But I think you should come with us if you want to help.”

“You…you mean to YOUR world?” she asked.

Mickey said “Yep. Trust me, it’s better if you see for yourself.” Before Donald whispered in his ear.

“You sure that’s a good idea, Mickey?”

“Better than leaving her here at the risk of getting attacked again.” He whispered back. “Besides, better she find out the whole truth then just being left behind.”

“Uh…I can hear you both.” Merida said, making the two jump back to attention and give awkward laughs. “And, if it means trying to find out what that Horseman wanted with the wisps and all, then I’m coming alright.”

“Then welcome aboard, Princess.” Goofy said.

“Just give me a second.” She said before gathering her weapons and pulling Angus aside.

As she began to write a note, explaining things to her parents in the hopes Angus would get back in time to give it to them, Mickey and the others stood to the side and spoke among themselves.

“Well at least she’s on our side.” Goofy added.

“Yeah, but what about the Horseman?” Donald asked. “What are we going to do about him?”

Mickey thought for a moment before saying “When we get back, I think it’s time we called a few old friends.”

He gave a look that, after Goofy and Donald saw it, knew what he meant. They all nodded amongst each other before looking back to Merida. She’d finished with Angus and slapped his rear, sending him riding off back to Castle DunBroch. All she had with her now was her bow and arrows along with a hooded cloak.

“Okay, I’m ready.” She said, walking over to them. “So where do we go?”

Mickey, pulling out the magic key that was used to activate the Doorway to other worlds, asked “You know the nearest place with a door?”

********************

In the lair he’d been teleported to, the Horseman walked into the large room where his master waited.

Walking up through the darkened hall he came to a stop at the base of a small set of stairs leading to the throne of the master that the Horseman had been ordered by to go into the Land of DunBroch. He kneeled before the master before presenting the bag filled with wisps.

“Excellent work, my Horseman.” The master said. “We have one piece. Now to collect the others.” The Horseman gave a signal, indicating he would go and retrieve whatever his master wanted, only for them to say “No, not yet. We must wait until the pirate is freed. Then, my faithful servant, we shall make our next move.”
Note: I own nothing, all material belongs to the respective owners at Disney.

I know there's a lot of recapping in this chapter, and there may be a bit more as we go on, but it's mainly for those who haven't read the first story and are hoping on with this one. And for reminding people of some of the other details from the last story. Believe me it's not uncommon and really I just think it's better for everyone's sake.

Right off the bat Merida was one of the first characters to put in this story. Mainly on the grounds that she's one of the few princess' that can actually fight if need be and, looking back on the first story I did realize most of the princesses didn't do much. So it's good to actually have one who can defend herself.

Among the other character added to this story, bringing Max Goof and Scrooge McDuck was actually something brought back from the early drafts of the first story. I'd intended to have them in but then I began to see it overcrowded things; especially given the many character already in the story. Same goes for them mention of Pete's family; for those of you who haven't seen Goof Troop you should at least read up on it so you're not lost.

And finally the Headless Horseman who, I'll admit, I always loved watching as a kid. He was another character meant for the first story but eventually dropped. Here it's good to have him back in the saddle as it were and causing trouble while serving some dark master behind it all.

Good to see Scrooge, but where exactly does he fit in the Center World ? It's more medieval-themed while our usual Scrooge lives in a modern-looking Duckburg where knights, court magicians and castles wouldn't belong… Also, remember that Merida is PIXAR, not Disney; merely owned by Disney. So do you plan on using more PIXAR or not ?
